What is recorded

Your image, your voice and what you say. Plus the date and the place. Your first name and your home town only if you want that.

There is no facial recognition, no voice recognition and no profiling. The recording is not merged with any other source of data.

Where it will be seen

On retteten.de and possibly on video and social media platforms. Which ones is not settled yet. Some of those platforms process data outside Europe.

Once something is published it is available worldwide, and strangers can download and copy it.

What allows me to do this

Only your consent. I record your consent on the spot, or you give it in writing. Without it, nobody who can be identified is published.

If your answer reveals something about political views, beliefs, health or origin, I need your explicit consent for that too. That is why it is recorded along with the interview.

If you are under 18, I also need your parents to agree.

Voluntary and unpaid

You do not have to take part, and saying no has no consequences. You get no fee for it. The video may be used commercially, for example on channels that earn advertising revenue.

Your card on the wall

On retteten.de there is a wall of three-liners: what someone is saving, what stands in the way, the first step. Nothing appears there by itself out of an interview. If you want your sentence on the wall, you enter it yourself. That is a step of its own, and it is yours to take.

Where the footage is kept

Reviewing and editing happen on my own devices. For backups I use a cloud storage service covered by a data processing agreement. If spoken words are transcribed automatically, that runs offline on my computer: the audio goes to no AI service for it.

How long

• Unused footage: deleted after 12 months at the latest.
• Published video: as long as it is online, so until you withdraw your consent.
• Your consent, kept as proof: up to 3 years after that.

Changing your mind

At any time, no reason needed, a plain email is enough. I will take the video down or edit you out.

Being straight with you: Anything that has been online may already have been copied. I cannot reliably remove those copies. Please weigh that before you agree.

Your rights

Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability. You can complain to a data protection authority, most easily in the EU country where you live. The authority responsible for me is the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen in Hanover.
